Jan. 7 - Day 1 - Got the guys in the weight room. They lifted halfway decent. Not impressed with their effort.
Jan. 8. - Listened to some philosophy by the varsity manager. Then did a "dynamic warm up" as a full program. After this was done I took my sophomores and ran 22, 50 yard gassers. They actually ran 40 yards as I had them slow down at the top of the numbers on the football field. They had 6.5 to get to the numbers. I added a few extra for not making time or people going slow. The purpose? Obviously to get them in shape. I want to see how well they are going to mentally battle. After 10 sprints I got asked how many we were doing. I said, "20" and there were 2 moans...so I added 2 more (for the 22). Basically I want to see what they have in their minds early. Tomorrow is back in the weight room. Day 2 of weights will be the Taz Circuit. I don't think they have a clue what is about to hit them.
Jan. 9th - Taz circuit. 15 stations - broad jump, bench, kettle bell, push up, high step up, tricep, front squat, power pull, medicine ball squat, lawn mowers, etc. 40 seconds per station. Started...went about 4 stations and told them the effort wasn't very good. Started over. Finished the first round...explained to them that there is an expectation to get max effort...and the guys who missed all the fall training WERE WAY BEHIND. 2nd set was better. Still have a lot to do. Went outside in the rain. Will be adding more sprints tomorrow because they complained about the cold. I think I might have gotten one kid to go away. That is not the point...but if he isn't mentally ready...then he probably wasn't meant to be on the team. Tomorrow...more classroom and then field work.
