KD is the new rules board moderator. Basically he is the God of this board.
KD is a Division 1 Collegiate Umpire. He has years of experience.
I still feel like I can tell him to "suck it" and not get tossed out of the game though.... J/K
Welcome KD and thanks. You guys can ask him tough questions....he'll have really good, clear and concise, answers.

I have one for you KD. I have been told that many umpires despise the term "blue" and look at it as a form of disrespect. I have made it a point to get the names of umpires and refer to them by name instead. I also prohibit my players from using the term "blue". Thoughts?

I honestly could care less, but it does tell you about a persons perspective. I suggest using first names. I do and everyone I'm on the field with does. I'll go places I've never been and they know my name and I know most of them. It part of being a professional. What is it like in your place of work?

I asked KD about this. And it was a great question for me. I'm a "blue" guy. That is because that is all I knew back in the day. Now I'm going to be a name guy. Problem is...I'm bad with names...I'll need to write them down.

Our area is heavy in the use of blue for youth levels. But, we suggest to our Little League managers that they use first names when we conduct coaches training. I have not paid much attention to the high school level yet (still a couple years out for my son). @rsr - Who's not bad w/ names? I always write them on my line up card right after getting them at the plate meeting.

I usually know most from our local association. I bring a Sharpie with me and will even write it on my palm?!? Of course since our catcher introduces himself the first time, I end up asking him again anyway. Our LU chart is taped to the wall. I also write it there but still no guarantees.... ;>)
It has to be first names. Hey Blue imo, is insulting even though I understand where this came from. Speaking of that. KD should get a chuckle. I asked my buddy about the funniest thing he'd heard yelled from the stands.
He says somebody yelled: "Hey Blue, you're not the worst umpire in the world" .... Long Long pause .... "But when that guy dies"...
