I have a need. I'm a new coach who has little knowledge of pitch selection. Can you help?

Interesting question, but the higher up in baseball one goes the answers might change. What level are you currently coaching at?
Some coaching ego can muck up the game. Expecting pitchers to throw to specific spots and be able to command their pitches can be dicey imo.
We want 'our' pitchers to be strike throwers because in my experiences most (young) hitters will get themselves out 8/10 times.
On 0 and two to certain hitters (especially if you have already charted their lineup 1 through 9) you want to continue to pound the strike zone if the hitter is overmatched.
Other times on 0 and two - you need to either have a pitcher who can "miss a barrel" and induce a weak ball in play or in OUR case we will throw a fastball on the outside corner and up = about 2-3 baseball-width out of the strike zone.
Depending on the level of play - some baseball programs have pitching slogans like: We want the opposing hitter to either be ON base or IN the dugout within 3-5 pitches. Otherwise you end up with Pitchers trying to strike every hitter out - add in - 2-4 foul balls and you end up with pitchers throwing 20+ pitches each inning which is counterproductive.

I think it's two things....
1. The hitter's tendencies. If you have a chart on the guy and he's a free swinger on junk in the dirt...I'd be going there.
2. The level of the game. If it's LiL and the hitter can't handle a pitch on either corner it might be just a ball near the plate.

What is thrown should have "purpose" do you want to change the hitters eye level? Are you trying to make him chase? I am a big proponent of FB under the hands for HS pitchers. If it misses the mark- miss in & not over plate. Difficult to handle and it opens up the outer part of the plate.
