When a batter is attempting....or is thought to attempt a swing at a ball and gets beaned....what is the rule? Strike? Dead Ball? Is that determined by the plate ump? And can he confer with others?

If the plate guy says he swung, it's a dead ball strike. If the swing is appealed and the base guy says he swung its a dead ball strike. If its called a strike and you leave your position to argue, you can and should be ejected after a brief warning issued the moment you begin to leave your position.

Yep. Except one part. The "If it's called a strike and you leave your position". Do you mean when the base ump helps? Or do you mean...like a CALLED strike. Meaning...everyone on the face of the Earth knows the kid got hit...but the pitch is called a strike? I feel like these "little" things will come up and I'll either look stupid or be a genius. I'd love to err on the side of genius.

If an umpire calls the pitch a strike for either being in the zone or on the swing and you leave your position to argue that call, then by rule you are subject to ejection. Regardless if the player got hit or not, the ball is dead and a strike is recorded and if its strike three he's out too.

The coolest thing ever is punching a guy out on strike three when he rolls into one on the inner half.

I hate the rolling in crap trying to get hit. If it's truly inside...that is one thing. Trying to get hit vs. TRYING TO GET A HIT...is garbage. Good stuff KD.

The inside turn roll is still the proper batter technique compared to kids who open up to the high and tight pitch. But hitters who abuse items should be dealt with.

Agreed on turning in when it's close. I'm talking about when your toes are on the plate and you turn away from an "inside" pitch that is actually on the paint. Totally get the "turn" on the inside pitch...much safer.

Inside turn technique is different than lean over the plate into the strike zone technique.

Agree with both of you. I would hope, but know that's not the case that some of these tactics are not being taught in LL to Pony - Colt but alas they are. Toes on the plate is going to get the poor kid harmed. Lots of LL coaches are coaching Daddy ball in hopes that their own little Billy gets PT. The average city LL run organization like ours District 52 is pathetic even THO the regional LL's hold clinics for coaches. Playing the game takes talent. Coaching the game takes talent. Umpiring the game takes talent. Talent is ability. The rest should just become fans of the game etc, but even that's asking too much sometimes.
Those who can = Play Those who (no-longer) can - Either coach or Officiate. The rest should ~ ~ ~
