If you are in a must win game would you be more or less likely to be competitive if you went with your strikeout pitcher who may walk a few batters with a weaker infield or a strong infield with a pitcher you know will throw strikes but give up a few hits?

Always err on the side of having the best team defense behind a strike thrower!

I always like the best defense possible. If my pitchers are doing their job, they are throwing strikes and keeping the game moving. A defense that nows the ball is going to be put into play is better prepared mentally to make plays because they know they are going to have to make plays behind their pitcher.
As well, even if the pitcher is a guy that gives up a few hits, if the staff works with him, he can develop the occassional strike out pitch or find that pitch that moves enough to get the cheap out, which is painful to the offense with you essentially give up an out on a bad swing.

Always throw strikes. Can't defend the walk
